The Center for Digital Democracy Order soma without prescription, (CDD) recently published the first part (of three) of their white paper, “Beyond Broadcast: Expanding Public Media in the Digital Age.” The paper does not paint a particularly rosy picture of public broadcasting; it leads into section II with the following statement, “One of the forces that must be reckoned with in this quest for a new public media is public broadcasting, at once the heart of the noncommercial media, but also a potentially serious impediment to the drive for a more participatory, interactive media system.” The CDD points to three factors which have lead to an overly conservative public broadcasting machine: lack of, "localism, diversity, and risk taking.” The paper addresses some very relevant questions and concerns, but does not yet suggest how public broadcasting can foster participation in its media. As the author of CDD’s “Beyond Broadcast” report, I should perhaps first apologize for any confusion that might have been created by the title of my report, which is in no way connected with your upcoming event in Cambridge. When I began the paper last summer, I was blissfully unaware of the conference plans (as I was of other “Beyond Broadcasts” floating around in cyberspace and beyond, including a media production company in St.Paul, MN, a consulting firm in Singapore, a paper on wireless technologies by Kevin Werbach, an article by Caroline M. H. Kraus on the Independent Television Service’s online activities, an interactive news project at Penn State University, a “wireless media adapter” from Avinity, and probably a half-dozen other real and imagined products, schemes, and reports. Some alliterations, it seems are irresistible).
Second, I should also explain that the next installment of my report, scheduled for release on 1 May 2006, has been pushed back to June (or July or August). And just to avoid any confusion, I’m titling part 2 “Gone With the Wind.”
